A season of fasting…

fasting
I’m entering into a new season.  The timing of this is nothing short of miraculous.  Our pastor planted a seed for us, and the hearts that have responded are nothing short of captivated.  At a church gathering last evening, I heard some mention that they felt led to fast from social-media, others feel led to fast a meal or two, still another couple is fasting from alcohol, and one sweet girl is fasting from shopping.  I love it.  The buzz of anticipation is mesmerizing.

Each person is taking a new look a how they spend time, and each person is desiring to set aside this time for God and God alone.  My husband is fasting from all forms of social media.  In its place, he felt led to pull out his Study Bible and focus on the book of Nehemiah.  A book all about team building and unity.  I have felt led to fast from lunches, and during this time I will be reading in preparation for a study He is calling me to lead.

Today was the first day!  The start of a new “race”.  The gun has sounded and we’re off… perhaps to a slow start, but a start none the less.  Yesterday, a friend of mine had heard word through social media that we were embarking on this journey and she made it a point, at the end of our boys basketball game, to tell me that she would be praying for us.  And today, she sent me a text message as well.  How cool is that?  Little do we remember that we’re in this together, that we grow alongside one another, and that the importance of reaching out in encouragement is something we’re actually commanded to do :)

Hebrews 3:13

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.

Will this be easy? Ummm, no.  But perhaps that’s the point.  We all know that in the “hard”, we learn lessons that can’t come any other way.  Already today, I knew I would be meeting for a lunch date with a good friend I have not met with in a few months.  I talked with God about it.  I felt right about sitting with the family at the dinner table and sharing our day while drinking some water and setting time aside tonight for studying.  Flexibility.  Have I failed already?  I don’t believe so.  The point of a fast is to press into God in ways where we are still, quiet, and also engaged with our Lord.  Satan would have me believe I can’t even get it right on Day one, might as well throw in the towel.

I believe God will honor this time as a family, I believe God will honor this time as our Church family, and I know that He will continue to inspire others to join hands with us, IN Him for the greater picture – His Almighty Kingdom.  So what do you think?  Still not so sure about all this fasting stuff?  I was there too.

Check THIS OUT.  Pastor Chad has given us some great resources as well as encouragement along the journey.

“In order for me to take you to a place you’ve never been before, you must first be willing to do what you’ve never done.”

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  I would LOVE to share in this journey WITH you and alongside you.  I’m expecting BIG.  My God is BIG.  Greater things are still to come, greater have yet to be done in this city!
